U. S. Conference of Mayors officially supports Queer Civil Rights!

The U. S. Conference of Mayors is the official nonpartisan organization of mayors of U. S. cities with populations over 30,000. Currently there are 1,201 member cities and member mayors.

Monday they passed a resolution calling for full equality for LGBT Americans. They endorsed legislation to repeal the pentagon's discriminatory Don't Ask Don't Tell policy. They came out loudly and clearly for marriage equality and they said they oppose the enshrinement of discrimination in the federal or state constitutions.

Read or download the full original resolution in.pdf format.

This is a major step forward. Let's keep pushing!

Were it not for the influence of geriatric Mormon leaders in Utah spending wads of cash to influence the voters in California, Prop 8 would have been voted down. California voters didn't have their thinking caps on and they let the Mormons sell them snake oil. It doesn't say too much for the collective IQ of California voters, but they usually make the right choices if the facts are laid out clearly, openly and honestly. Without the Mormon propaganda machine I have faith Californians will do the right thing next time around.
