Published since 2005. San Francisco is a city that belongs to the people of the world. Hence this blog has a global focus. The name "Sam Spade's San Francisco" refers to an exciting era in the City's history, the time of Dashiell Hammett's fictional gumshoe and San Francisco character, Sam Spade. My name is Tom Dunn and I edit the blog. I'm not as exciting as Sam Spade, but I am definitely a San Francisco character.Contact or on Twitter -- Search blog below.

Speaker Pelosi talks business with Hong Kong honchos
Nancy Pelosi, who represents the people of San Francisco, headed a high-level delegation that met with Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang this past May to discuss how the United States and Hong Kong can work together to address the global financial crisis and climate change. The Speaker and the Chief Executive also discussed the relationship between Hong Kong and mainland China along with the prospects for universal suffrage in Hong Kong in the near future. . Mayor Gavin Newsom has met with Chinese officials during at an earlier trip and has been very involved in ongoing negotiations with Hong King to further business relationships between San Francisco and Hong Kong. .
It's nice to know the people we elect to further our interests are hard at work doing their job. Now, if we can get the California legislature and Governor to do their job and keep the state out of bankruptcy, we will be making some progress. .
