Update: The ordinance was passed by the Board of Supervisors. Supervisors John Avalos, David Campos, David Chiu, Chris Daly, Bevan Dufty, Eric Mar, Sophie Maxwell and Ross Mirkarimi voted yes. Thank you all!
The Three Stooges:
Three supervisors voted no. We need to remember these three names, because these three folks vote, not based on what is best for San Franciscans, but what is best for them. We don't need people like that in public office.
The gang of three are: Michela Alioto-Pier, Carmen Chu and Sean Elsbernd. All three have a record of voting in obedience to Mayor Newsom rather than following their own conscience. This vote is a classic example of the way these three stooges deep-kiss the Mayor's derrière.

Open message sent via email this date to every member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors:
San Francisco Board of Supervisors member John Avalos has introduced the most sensible and realistic economic recovery legislation that has come before the Board in 2010. Today, in a few hours, the Board will vote on Supervisor Avalos' proposed ordinance.
The local hire ordinance is aimed at the construction industry which is poised for significant growth in San Francisco during 2011. Our community concern is that out of work construction workers from across throughout Northern California will fight for those jobs and commute into and out of San Francisco for work. They will take their paychecks back home with them. The people of San Francisco who need jobs will go without and the businesses who need the payroll spent locally will see San Francisco dollars back to the Valley.
The people who will suffer most without John Avalos' legislation: African American San Franciscans in the Bayview - Hunters Point and African Americans living in the Western Addition. In these communities are large numbers of San Franciscans without work. Nearly 100% of them are U.S. Citizens. A very large number of them are San Francisco natives as were their parents and grandparents. Also, a large number of them are jobless veterans. John Avalos' legislation will send badly-needed jobs into their neighborhoods.
Another major demographic group will continue to suffer without the help provided by this legislation: people from Mexico, Central and South America. The people who live largely in the Mission neighborhood-- also a community devastated with joblessness. These are families -- husbands and fathers who try very diligently every day to secure honest work. John Avalos' local hire ordinance will protect the people and advance their futures.
The people who will benefit most if the legislation is NOT passed: White construction workers from the Valley.
The people who will lose most if the legislation is NOT passed: San Franciscans who are people of color.
I ask, beg, admonish, advise and demand that every member of the Board of Supervisors support John Avalos' proposed ordinance and cast a YES vote. Let's make this unanimous support for our own people in San Francisco!
- Thomas Dunn, San Francisco

ps: if the vote is not unanimous, make a note of the no votes and remember them. Know your enemies!
