PO/2 Josh Nichols, CG-6505 crewman, awarded B.S. degree posthumously

I noticed this short piece at CGBlog. It came originally from the Honolulu Advertiser.

About the photo: PO/2 Josh Nichols, USCG and crewmember of CG-6505. Photo from Honolulu Advertiser.

It’s an update, of sorts, on a First Line Guardian who lost his life aboard CG-6505 last summer in Hawaii.

U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Josh Nichols was posthumously awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in professional aeronautics by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in a ceremony Saturday at Hickam Air Force Base.

Nichols’ wife, Danielle, accepted the diploma.

Nichols was one of four Coast Guardsmen stationed at Barbers Point who were killed in a Sept. 2008 crash of an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter off Oahu.

Also killed were Cmdr. Thomas Nelson, Lt. Cmdr. Andrew Wischmeier and Petty Officer 1st Class David Skimin.

Here's a tribute to Josh and the rest of CG 6505
