Father's Day in Iraq & Afghanistan - See what the USO is doing

On June 21st, as you're firing up the barbecue, young Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan will be faced with fire of a completely different sort. While Dads at home gather with family and friends, Dads on the front lines can only dream of the kids they haven't seen in months. And the worried fathers of those who serve will wonder what challenges and dangers threaten their children today.

Holidays are the hardest times for families separated by War.

This Father's Day, the USO is mounting a special effort to make sure our soldiers don't feel quite so isolated from their loved ones at home. We'll distribute pre-paid phone cards, so servicemen and women can call family and friends – free – from any phone, anywhere. Our USO Centers will stay open extra hours, providing free phone service and Internet access. And for troops serving in small Forward Operating Bases, who can't get to a Center or a phone, we've created new mobile USO units, called "USOs-in-a-Box", that provide satellite up-links with phone and Internet connections; so a tired soldier can just walk in and suddenly be at a family gathering.

However, we can't succeed in this effort without the support of Americans like you. So please give what you can today – because Father's Day shouldn't just be for Fathers at home.
