Harry Reid asks President Obama to end DADT

As Kerry Eleveld reports this afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) would "welcome a legislative proposal from the White House on repeal so as to provide clear guidance on what the President would like to see and when. With presidential leadership and direction, I believe we can find the time to get repeal done in this Congress. We need all the troops we can get right now."

Eleveld notes these are "the first intimations from Congressional leadership on a time frame for accomplishing repeal."

SLDN applauds Sen. Reid's call for presidential action and so does Sam Spade's San Francisco. Congress defers to the President on matters of national defense. It is time for the Obama Administration to either endorse HR 1283 or submit legislation to lift the ban and establish a nondiscrimination policy.

We all know how busy the President is cleaning up the mess left by Bush and Cheney, but come on .... can't we at least get started moving in the right direction?
