in their own words
The Theatre Department of City College of San Francisco presents an original piece exploring the thoughts of those most affected by the war in Iraq, those serving and their families. In "Aftermath", some thirty-five individuals reflect on their experiences at the front, the loss of others and the loneliness of being left behind.
This piece was conceived and directed by John Wilk, Instructor and Director in the Theatre Department of CCSF. Wilk gathered acting students who were interested in the Iraq war and individuals involved in the military. They began a four month research project that included reading innumerable blogs, books, articles, and eventually interviews done by the group. Out of this research came a powerful script staged as a series of monologues and dramatizations in a docudrama format including projections and original music by Brian Fergus.
