Published since 2005. San Francisco is a city that belongs to the people of the world. Hence this blog has a global focus. The name "Sam Spade's San Francisco" refers to an exciting era in the City's history, the time of Dashiell Hammett's fictional gumshoe and San Francisco character, Sam Spade. My name is Tom Dunn and I edit the blog. I'm not as exciting as Sam Spade, but I am definitely a San Francisco character.Contact or on Twitter -- Search blog below.

Cool Blue Glass Rising
The InterContinental San Francisco is going up at 888 Howard St at 5th, next to Moscone West. You will recognize it by its cool blue glass exterior and its growing height.
The hotel will tower 32 stories above the City. It will offer 550 rooms outfitted in marble, natural woods and plenty of glass to see the sweeping view. There will be 14 suites, 43,000 sq. ft. of flexible meeting space with natural light, a ten-room treatment spa, full-service fitness center, and an indoor pool.
The project is on schedule to open February 2008.
Intercontinental has appointed Peter Koehler as GM for the new property. Koehler is currently GM of Kimpton Group's Hotel Palomar.
