A message from the AEF:
AEF is coming up on a major milestone: this summer, in the midst of our 25th anniversary year, AEF will award its 25-millionth dollar of emergency assistance to help someone pay their basic living expenses when they are too sick to work.
While still having to provide this emergency assistance to our 2300 clients 25 years later is nothing to celebrate, 25 years of community support for people with AIDS is!
So AEF will be pulling out all the stops this summer to honor our earliest donors and volunteers at a unique and fun event.
On Saturday July 21, 2007, AEF will host its 25th Anniversary Gala at our sentimental favorite Marriott Hotel. Nearly 1,000 of San Francisco’s most caring citizens will join AEF volunteers and clients as we mark this milestone of community service.
Unlike AEF gala events in recent years, this one will be a return to the sit-down dinner, performance and dance format of AEF galas in the mid-1990s. We hope to be able to announce a very special guest musical performer soon. In the meantime, we have assembled an impressive honorary committee for the event, all of whom have particularly close ties to AEF: Mayor Gavin Newsom, Donna Sachet, Armistead Maupin, Sharon McNight, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Assemblyman Mark Leno.
This group reflects the diversity of AEF’s supporters and constituencies and signifies the important grass roots role that AEF has played in San Francisco since the earliest days of the AIDS pandemic. We are working on a very special audio-visual presentation that captures the history of AEF and celebrates our early founders and community leaders who helped build the organization we have today.
In a break from past traditions, we will be limiting our awards presentation in order to shorten the talking-head portion and to honor one very special man, AEF cofounder Rick Booth. Even in these early stages of planning, many of our most loyal corporate and foundation sponsors are generously lining up to support the event.
Over the next few months, corporate and foundation gifts will eventually cover the cost of the event, so that 100% of ticket sales go directly to our clients in need.
Special thanks to our earliest major supporters: Wells Fargo, the Bob Ross Foundation and Kaiser Permanente.
