Published since 2005. San Francisco is a city that belongs to the people of the world. Hence this blog has a global focus. The name "Sam Spade's San Francisco" refers to an exciting era in the City's history, the time of Dashiell Hammett's fictional gumshoe and San Francisco character, Sam Spade. My name is Tom Dunn and I edit the blog. I'm not as exciting as Sam Spade, but I am definitely a San Francisco character.Contact or on Twitter -- Search blog below.

Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma Video - Farewell 2007
It is my practice to say goodbye to every passing year with a song from someone who left us in that year. This year the choice is clear and obvious. One of the greatest and most magnificent voices ever to grace this planet died in 2007.
Luciano Pavarotti was arguably the greatest operatic tenor in the world.
On February 10, 2006 Luciano Pavarotti appeared on stage for the last time. He sang Nessun Dorma, the sweeping aria from Puccini's Turandot, that had become his signature piece. On September 6, 2007 the great voice was stilled. Luciano Pavarotti died of pancreatic cancer.
To say farewell to 2007 I offer the great Luciano Pavarotti performing his stunning rendition of Nessun Dorma.
Thank you so very much for sharing your talent with us, Luciano, and farewell. Bravo. Bravo!
(If you have trouble watching the video, you can follow to see the performance on YouTube)
