In 2005, Spain's Congress of Deputies voted to permit same-sex couples to marry, becoming the third country in the world to provide same-sex couples with full, legal equality. Heading a national consortium of LGBT organizations, Beatriz Gimeno was the architect of Spain's marriage equality and instrumental in Trans rights work. Carmen Monton was the Spanish Congressional Representative who successfully debated the bills in the Spanish Parliament.
