Veterans for Obama - Links, Contacts, Resources

An Open Letter to Veterans and Military Families:

I'm writing to introduce myself as the campaign's national director for
veterans and military families, and tell you about some of the exciting
things going on with the campaign.

My name's Phil Carter. I'm an Iraq veteran who served 9 years in the
Army, including active and reserve duty as an MP and civil affairs
officer. Here at headquarters, we also have Jonathan Freeman, another
former Army officer and Iraq veteran, who's serving as my deputy. And
we also have an active core group of veterans engaged in policy work,
media, and field/political operations.

We want you to get involved with the campaign too! Below are a number
of ways you can join Team Obama - whether by volunteering to help at the
convention in Denver, hosting a fundraiser in your community, joining
our my.barackobama.com community, or learning more about Barack Obama's veterans and national security policies to be an ambassador for change in your community.

I look forward to working with all of you to build movement of veterans
and military families for change.

Fired up!!!

Phil Carter
Veterans Director
Obama for America

2. Veterans for Obama on the Internet

Our veterans and military families team has a new home on the
barackobama.com homepage, complete with a blog, links to important
veterans policy papers, and a form you can fill out to join the Veterans
for Obama organizations

http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/vetshome

A number of states already have Veterans for Obama sites set up on the
my.barackobama.com page - just search for your state name and veterans
in the group list. Those groups will connect you to organizing and
events in your community.

3. 50 States of Veterans for Obama

We are working hard to build a movement of veterans and military
families across America, led by teams in all 50 states. If you're
interested in getting involved, look for the Veterans for Obama group on
the my.barackobama.com website and contact that group's leadership. Or,
email your information to and we'll put you in
touch with the Veterans for Obama chair in your state.

4. Volunteer at the Convention in Denver

If you are interested in coming to Denver to work at the Convention,
please fill out the following web form:
http://my.barackobama.com/page/s/conventionvol

Completing this web form will put your name into our Convention
volunteer database for consideration and placement. While we cannot
guarantee assignments for everyone, we will do our best to place as many
volunteers as possible.

* Housing and transportation for volunteers will not be provided. We
will supply a list of low-cost housing options upon request.

* Volunteers are not guaranteed admission to the proceedings.

* Assignments will be made on a rolling basis beginning in late July
and continuing through August 25.

* When receiving assignments, volunteers will be asked to sign up for a
training session specific to their duties. Attending a training session
will be mandatory and will all take place in Denver.
