Published since 2005. San Francisco is a city that belongs to the people of the world. Hence this blog has a global focus. The name "Sam Spade's San Francisco" refers to an exciting era in the City's history, the time of Dashiell Hammett's fictional gumshoe and San Francisco character, Sam Spade. My name is Tom Dunn and I edit the blog. I'm not as exciting as Sam Spade, but I am definitely a San Francisco character.Contact or on Twitter -- Search blog below.

NBC's Brian Williams Scoops Media and Gets First Interview after Berlin Speech
Literally as I am writing this, NBC's Nightly News anchor, Brian Williams, is getting the first interview with Barack Obama after Obama's stunning speech to the people of the world from Berlin, Germany.
MSNBC cameras were behind stage to watch Obama and Williams engaged in a lengthy conversation. Without doubt we will see that interview this evening on the NBC Nightly News. It will also, without doubt, be available to watch in its entirety on MSNBC, which for millions of us, is the place for politics.
The first, early and good report on the speech is coming in to us from Politico.com which headlines their story asObama offers partnership to people of the world.
Tomorrow the best choice for an in-depth review of the speech and its impact on the global community will almost certainly be The Nation magazine online.
