The U.S. Coast Guard is participating in the rescue of four people aboard a trimaran sailboat that ran into trouble in the Pacific Ocean approximately 150 miles west of Point Reyes.
The Coast Guard received a report at about 7 a.m. Wednesday that "Defiance", a sailboat en route from Honolulu to Sausalito, was taking on water.

The Coast Guard contacted a container vessel from Mexico for assistance and dispatched Coast Guard Cutter Midgett from Seattle to help the boaters.
The container vessel reached the sailboat at about 1 p.m., followed by the Midgett, which arrived at about 6 p.m.
The Midgett determined that the vessel was salvageable and seaworthy, and is escorting the boat toward Monterey, where it is expected to arrive sometime today.
With more boaters expected on the water this holiday weekend, the Coast Guard is reminding the public to reduce risk factors, including by having a working VHF-FM radio and emergency position-indicating radio beacon on board.
