Gunslingers, Dope Dealers and Car Thieves in San Francisco

Regardless of crime statistics, which can easily be manipulated to produce any desired result, the clear and absolute fact is that living in San Francisco is becoming more dangerous as each year passes. Just ask someone who has lived in San Francisco for awhile.

I remember San Francisco 50 years ago (I'm in my 60's) and I can testify to the fact that the Streets of San Francisco are rough and getting a lot rougher. The problem stems from gangs and ghetto bums.

Here, by example, is one day's reporting from San Francisco Police Department's Ingleside Station. This is the report for Wednesday, August 6, 2008. Here's what happened in this small section of San Francisco on a lazy summertime day:

Midnight: Mission & Valencia Streets Armed Robbery: Gun
Officer Kavanagh and posse investigated a street robbery wherein a 33 year old Potrero hill man was robbed at gunpoint of his car keys. A search of the area produced a detention of two men on a MUNI bus. The victim and the robber fought once more and the gunman struck the victim in the head with the gun. The robber made off with the victim's backpack and its contents.

8:10 am: Heritage St. Juvenile Probation Violation

Officer Finely and Officer McCarthy investigated a stolen car incident in which the victim recovered her car but suspected her 14 year old niece of the theft.
