Published since 2005. San Francisco is a city that belongs to the people of the world. Hence this blog has a global focus. The name "Sam Spade's San Francisco" refers to an exciting era in the City's history, the time of Dashiell Hammett's fictional gumshoe and San Francisco character, Sam Spade. My name is Tom Dunn and I edit the blog. I'm not as exciting as Sam Spade, but I am definitely a San Francisco character.Contact or on Twitter -- Search blog below.

State Senate Passes MUNI Camera Bill
Rescue Muniis passing the word along that the State Senate approved a bill that would allow San Francisco and other municipalities to mount bus lane cameras on vehicles to crack down on those inconsiderate ego-centric motorists who insist on double parking so they inconvenience the rest of the world, but not themselves.
In London, such a system has led to a 92 percent drop in double parking violations that block buses, which suggests that London drivers, like San Franciscans, have a tendency to put themselves first unless reminded of the error of their ways.
