Published since 2005. San Francisco is a city that belongs to the people of the world. Hence this blog has a global focus. The name "Sam Spade's San Francisco" refers to an exciting era in the City's history, the time of Dashiell Hammett's fictional gumshoe and San Francisco character, Sam Spade. My name is Tom Dunn and I edit the blog. I'm not as exciting as Sam Spade, but I am definitely a San Francisco character.Contact or on Twitter -- Search blog below.

Carmen Chu - Welcome to the A-Team!
I have no idea what ambition secretly burns deep inside Gavin Newsom, but when he leaves office as Mayor of San Francisco, he can add diplomacy to his growing list of polished skills.

After waiting a respectful period for the lynch mob cries to die down, the Mayor has decided the time has come to give Ed Jew the boot. His choice to replace the embattled supervisor is Carmen Chu - an excellent choice.
Miss Chu, soon to be Supervisor Chu, is the daughter of Chinese immigrants and holds a master's degree from UC Berkeley's renowned Goldman School of Public Policy. She has worked for Mayor Newsom as a legislative analyst. Her job at City Hall was to study and evaluate the workings of the Board of Supervisors - the ideal training ground.
Carmen Chu is an excellent choice and I want to welcome her very warmly to service to the people of San Francisco. Thank you also to Mayor Newsom for giving a very bright young woman the chance of a lifetime.
