By now everybody knows: Muni (aka: SFMTA) is proposing to raise fares and reduce service because of the MTA's massive $129 million budget deficit.
For more information on the proposed cuts please go to: http://www.sfmta.com/cms/rbudget2010/budgservice.htm
The MTA is holding a series of public community hearings to learn about the proposed changes and provide feedback:
- Tuesday, April 14, 9 am: SFMTA Board of Directors Policy and Governance Committee. 1 South Van Ness, 2nd floor Atrium conference room.
- Saturday, April 18, 10 am - 2 pm: Information meeting. 1 South Van Ness, 2nd floor Atrium conference room.
- Tuesday, April 21, 2 pm: SFMTA Board of Directors meeting. City Hall room 400.
- Thursday, April 30, 2 pm: SFMTA Board of Directors meeting. City Hall room 400.
If you cannot make it to any of the scheduled meetings you can still comment on the MTA’s proposed service cuts and the proposed budget. Details on how to comment are on the MTA’s website.
Rescue Muni says the TEP (Transit Effectiveness Project) proposal includes many revenue-neutral changes that would speed-up service (mainly stop consolidations and bus lanes/bulbs to give transit priority.) These proposed changes have nothing to do with the budget. The proposed changes, says Rescue Muni, will reduce the number of stops and, by so doing, allow Muni management to make it appear that they are improving their on-time performance.
