National Hunger Awareness Day

June 5 is National Hunger Awareness Day.

Events are scheduled across the country, and in San Francisco, Project Open Hand is partnering with the
San Francisco Food Bank and St. Anthony Foundation to bring attention to the issue of hunger in the Bay Area.

Here's how you can help:

Volunteer for Hunger Awareness Day!

On June 5
, we need volunteers to join us at Union Square, from 12:00pm - 1:00pm, to rally with Project Open Hand in support of solutions to hunger. Volunteers will carry signs and urge all San Franciscans to volunteer, donate and advocate for solutions to hunger in their city. If you would like to join the demonstration, please call Sean Rosas at .

Volunteer all year. Hunger exists all year round. Every day, Project Open Hand prepares more than 2,600 meals for people living with HIV/AIDS, homebound with a critical illness, and seniors, and distributes about 500 bags of groceries to people living with HIV/AIDS. To do this great work, we need over 100 volunteers every day, to chop vegetables, package and deliver meals, and distribute groceries on the Grocery Center. For more information about becoming a Project Open Hand volunteer in San Francisco, please call .

Donate.
At Project Open Hand, we're proud that our solid relationships with food vendors and commitment to efficient production help us keep the cost of meals and groceries low. But rising food, energy, and even insurance costs mean it's increasingly challenging to fund the thousands of meals and hundreds of bags of groceries that go to Project Open Hand clients every day. Your support is crucial to the fulfillment of our mission to serve meals with love. You can make a secure donation online, or call our donor hotline at (415) 447-2419
