The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) needs hundreds of volunteer buglers and trumpeters to participate in upcoming Armed Forces Day observances held at veterans' cemeteries nationwide and overseas.
The event, called "Echo Taps Worldwide," will be held May 19. "Echo Taps" will take place at VA-operated national cemeteries, U.S. Department of the Interior/National Park Service national cemeteries and American Battle Monuments Commission cemeteries located overseas. Volunteer buglers and trumpeters must register through the VA's website, which is attached to the "Echo Taps" website. The initiative also encourages musicians to perform as buglers at veterans' funeral ceremonies year round.
A documentary about the people and events of the original 2005 EchoTaps has been produced. This 44-minute (1-hour television format) DVD chronicles this unique tribute to our veterans from the origin of the concept to the playing of 'Taps' by 674 buglers over a stage that extended 42.2 miles between two national cemeteries in upstate New York, to the final gathering of the performers at the Bath National Cemetery to play 'Taps' in mass.
Complimentary copies of this documentary will be provided to
· all VA hospitals and medical centers. It will show our veterans that we care and we recognize the value of their contributions.
· school music programs. Hopefully it will inspire new buglers to play ‘Taps’ at military funerals.
· television networks. (i.e. local TV stations, community broadcasters and television networks)
