Published since 2005. San Francisco is a city that belongs to the people of the world. Hence this blog has a global focus. The name "Sam Spade's San Francisco" refers to an exciting era in the City's history, the time of Dashiell Hammett's fictional gumshoe and San Francisco character, Sam Spade. My name is Tom Dunn and I edit the blog. I'm not as exciting as Sam Spade, but I am definitely a San Francisco character.Contact or on Twitter -- Search blog below.

Tesla Roadster and Steve Westly
Photo: 2007 Tesla Roadster
. Steve Westly, former Controller of the State of California who ran against Phil Angelides for the California Democratic Party nomination for Governor, has joined theTesla Motorsboard of directors.
This is an interesting match.Westly, a native of the San Francisco Bay Area, holds an M.B.A from Stanford Graduate School of Business. In 1997, Westly joined eBay as one of their founding executives. He began as Vice President and subsequently gained the title of Senior Vice President for Marketing, Business Development, and International. He retired from eBay in 2000 when he and his wife, Anita Yu, established the Westly Foundation.
Tesla Motors holds the promise of becoming one of the largest and most dynamic auto producers in a world facing global climate change. Tesla Motors builds the Tesla Roadster, a remarkably fast and delightfully attractive car that is 100% electric, goes from 0 to 60 in 4 seconds flat, gets the equivalent of 135 MPG, 250 miles between charges and costs about one-cent per mile to operate.
I am expecting some very impressive performance from Tesla Motors.
