There's a battle brewing. It's Wells Fargo and Bank of America -v- the Republicans in the House of Representatives.

Last week the Business Journal reported that San Francisco based Wells Fargo & Co., which operates 250 bank branches in Arizona, is planning to offer credit cards to people in Arizona whether or not they can prove they are U.S. citizens. Earlier, Bank of America, based out of Charlotte, North Carolina, announced plans to expand a similar credit card program to Los Angeles County, where the bank has a large number of Latino customers.
The Republican Reply
Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn, introduced the Photo Identification Security Act on March 5, requiring U.S. financial institutions to accept only secure forms of identification. Under the bill, only legal U.S. residents would be eligible for federal benefits and be able to conduct financial transactions.
A quick trip to Blackburn's web site reveals why this Tennessee Republican is championing this cause. She is rabid about immigration and security. Just take a look at her gung-ho, right-wing, in-your-face, war-on-terror web site home page. It lists these Bush-Cheney approved story headlines:
BORDER FENCE BILL SIGNED INTO LAW
BLACKBURN TO HOST TENNESSEE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION HEARING
CONGRESS ON THE ROAD: BLACKBURN HELPS LEAD BORDER SECURITY PUSH
A TIMELINE OF TERROR
A Security Agenda for America's Future
Marsha Blackburn is as right-wing and conservative as they come. She makes Oliver North and Alexander Haig look like pinko-commies.In order for anyone in this country to open a bank account, the bill introduced by Blackburn would require either a passport, a federal green card, or a Social Security card PLUS a state or federal ID. It would be Big Brother looking right down into all our financial affairs. Privacy for all Americans would be a thing of the past. This bill would step all over the Constitution and trample it into the the Tennessee mud.
The Democratic Reply
The good news is that Blackburn is just a member of the minority in the House of Representatives, but our Representative is Nancy Pelosi, and she's not only a majority-member of the House of Representatives ... she is the Speaker ... and that trumps Tennessee's Blackburn and all the rest of the Bush-Cheney Republicans.
It looks like Blackburn will be the one being trampled into the Tennessee mud.
