USCGC Mohawk is on a diplomatic mission to Liberia, Africa. Mohawk arrived at this past Thursday, August 12th. Mohawk is in Liberia to conduct security training operations with the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL). Liberian coastal patrol officers will train aboard Mohawk for 2-weeks.
Mohawk received quite a welcome at Monrovia. Commander Jennifer Ketchum, USCG, assigned to the U.S. Embassy at Monrovia, was on hand to welcome Mohawk along with Deputy Defense Minister for Coast Guard Affairs, Timothy Grandole and Assistant Defense Minister for Public Affairs David Dahn.
Mohawk is a medium-endurance cutter, is 270 feet in length, has a crew of 100, carries an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter (like those used by the Coast Guard around San Francisco Bay), an MH-60 Jayhawk and an MH-68 Stingray. Mohawk is also armed with 1 MK 75 76-mm naval gun and 2 50-cal machine guns.
Mohawk is under the command of Commander Robert T. Hendrickson.
