US Coast Guard will get new Commandant - V Adm. Papp takes command - Adm. Allen to retire


Earlier today Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, announced the presidential appointment of Vice Admiral Robert J.Papp to be the next Commandant of the United States Coast Guard.

The USCG has a massive presence in San Francisco Bay. This is headquarters for the 11th Coast Guard District which includes much of the Western portion of the United States.

Upon confirmation Adm. Papp will relieve Admiral Thad Allen during a change of command ceremony on May 25, 2010, when Adm. Allen retires.
