This place serves one of the best damn lunch deals in the Financial District. This Happy Donuts is located in the Shell Building, corner of Bush and Battery Streets. They are on the Battery street side, next to Noah's Bagels.
They make one of the best Vietnamese pork sandwiches I have ever had. You can also get one with chicken, but the pork is so tender and wonderful and I recommend it.
I work in the same building for a law firm and I've eaten a lot of Happy Donuts' Vietnamese pork sandwiches. They're always great. Best of all, you can get a fresh made-to-order Vietnamese pork sandwich for under $4. Really.
They also have a number of other luncheon specials on the menu and every one of them is well under $10.
If you don't mind a weakish latte without foam, you can get one at this Happy Donuts for $1.95 - just try to beat that deal anywhere in the City for a fresh cup of espresso coffee and milk. I get a latte from them almost every day.
They take cash only, but with their prices so low, most everyone will have the cash to pay for lunch.
The service is very fast and the quality always runs very high.
The ambiance is the low point. The place looks and feels like any other doughnut shop. There are a few tables in the front and a few in the back - not a lot of room. It's a small place.
They get VERY busy at lunch time, so try before 11 AM or after 1:30 if you can. They do a very big lunch take-out business.
And yes, they carry a full line of doughnuts and pastry too - but the real treasure are those wonderfully messy and delicious Vietnamese pork sandwiches.
Bring $6 and you'll walk out with the sandwich and a latte. Best deal anywhere in the Financial District.
Save your money. Eat well. Happy Donuts at Battery and Bush.
