Published since 2005. San Francisco is a city that belongs to the people of the world. Hence this blog has a global focus. The name "Sam Spade's San Francisco" refers to an exciting era in the City's history, the time of Dashiell Hammett's fictional gumshoe and San Francisco character, Sam Spade. My name is Tom Dunn and I edit the blog. I'm not as exciting as Sam Spade, but I am definitely a San Francisco character.Contact or on Twitter -- Search blog below.

Southwest Airlines Partners with the LGBT Community
Last week Aloha Airlines went belly-up and a couple of days ago ATA suddenly filed bankruptcy and left their passengers up a creek without a paddle. With horrible stories like that, it is refreshing to see some good airline news come across the wire.
I just learned that Southwest Airlines has a solid record of supporting the diversity of its LGBT employees as well as LGBT customers. With a strong 90 percent rating on the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Corporate Equality Index, Southwest is the only low-fare carrier with an HRC rating.
Southwest Airlines offers a dedicated web page for the gay and lesbian traveler –www.southwest.com/gaytravel. The site includes specific information about gay-friendly destinations, a calendar of events around the country and dedicated offers.

Southwest Airlines outed me to my school district back in 2002. It caused me to lose my career.
