Published since 2005. San Francisco is a city that belongs to the people of the world. Hence this blog has a global focus. The name "Sam Spade's San Francisco" refers to an exciting era in the City's history, the time of Dashiell Hammett's fictional gumshoe and San Francisco character, Sam Spade. My name is Tom Dunn and I edit the blog. I'm not as exciting as Sam Spade, but I am definitely a San Francisco character.Contact or on Twitter -- Search blog below.

Urgent plea to San Franciscans: Give these beautiful cats a loving home. Save their lives! Hurry!
An urgent message from the San Francisco SPCA:
Despite our plea in June, we are still at full capacity with adult cat and kittens, and need your help. Kitten season is currently well underway, and together with a large number of adult and senior cats, the feline population at shelters continues to increase.
About the photo: This is Thomas. He is one of the many beautiful cats waiting for a loving home. Readmore about Thomas here.
The current economic crisis is also blamed for a rise in the number of owner-surrendered and abandoned cats. The SF/SPCA and other shelters in surrounding areas, are still urgently looking for more adopters to save cats' lives.
Pleaseclick hereto see photos and descriptions of the beautiful cats who so desperately need a loving home.
