Here are all the details, links, videos and local insider information you will need to visit the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park:
Enjoy a two-day celebration of historic proportions in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. The festivities on Saturday will begin at 8:30 am, when Architect Renzo Piano, Executive Director Greg Farrington, Mayor Gavin Newsom, and other officials commemorate the completion of the new Academy with an opening ceremony.
That's just the beginning. A host of activities will continue through Sunday, spreading throughout the Music Concourse in front of the Academy. Enjoy live music and dance performances. Sample sustainably-sourced food from all over the world. Marvel at Chinese acrobats, and see a band perform on "found" instruments like bottles, saws, and birdcages. Meet conservationists and green living experts. Scale a rock-climbing wall. And so much more!
And that is just what's outside the Academy. Inside, visitors will be able to explore the four-story rainforest, Philippine coral reef, living roof, and many other awe-inspiring exhibits for the first time. On Saturday, September 27, the Academy will be open from 9:30 am - 9:00 pm and admission will be free. On Sunday, September 28 (the first paid admission day), the Academy will be open from 9:30 am - 5:00 pm.
