Have you seen the TV commercial showing a firefighter who stares into the camera and tells us that Prop 87 is the wrong solution? The commercial is intended to deceive us into thinking it is sponsored by first-responders, public servants and environmentalists.
That is a lie. That commercial and the entire effort to defeat Prop 87 is being paid for by the oil industry.

Dear Sam,
I see you did your homework on Prop 87, but do you know the whole story about Joe Barton?
You know that Barton is Chair of the Congressional Energy and Commerce Committee. Do you know he is also a former high-paid consultant to Atlantic Richfield Oil Company? However, that's not surprising for a Texas Republican.
The Washington Post reported that "Since 1997, oil, gas, electricity, nuclear, coal and chemical companies have contributed $1.84 million to Barton, more than to any other House member." [Washington Post, 4/14/05] This is also not surprising for a Texas Republican.
Barton denies that global warming exists. Fellow legislators of both parties also have criticized Barton's approach as "misguided and illegitimate" and "a transparent effort to bully and harass climate change experts who have reached conclusions with which you disagree." Again, not unusual for a Texas Republican.
Is Joe Barton a bastard as you suggest? Is he a son-of-a-bitch as you suggest? Well, I don't really know. But I do know that he is a homophobe and, once again, that is nothing unusual for a Texas Republican.
Damn those Texas Republicans!
signed: a California Democrat
The firefighter speaking in that pathetic TV commercial is Kevin R. Nida, President of the California State Firefighters Association. Nida has been taking a lot of heat from CSFA members because of his shameless performance as an actor for the oil companies. Nida sold his soul to Chevron Oil. Kevin Nida is a bought, paid-for and owned stooge.
For more than 75 years the California State Firefighters' Association has been the largest fire service organization in California. With 28,000 members, CSFA represents all elements of the fire service.
CSFA is the only state fire service organization that employs a full-time lobbyist. Afrak Vargas is the current CSFA Lobbyist. Neither Vargas nor the CSFA endorses Prop 87.
Membership in CSFA is optional. Some members of the San Francisco Fire Department are CSFA members. Some are not. Neither the SFFD or the membership thereof endorses or affirms the actions and/or statements of Kevin Nida.
Neither Kevin Nida nor the CSFA speak on behalf of the membership of the San Francisco Fire Department.
